Got Speeders?

Have you ever watched someone speeding past your house and subsequently wondered where the police are when you need them?  Well, wonder no more.  At our September meeting, our CIU officer Det. Josh Smith, highlighted an online service to alert SLCPD to problem speeders in the community.  The service, called SPEEDWATCH, is a web tool that allows community members to report an incident and subsequently track the department's follow up efforts.

To request enforcement in your area, send the department an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Alternatively, you can directly access the Speedwatch site here or use the link in the menu on the right.

When you file your incident report, be sure to include the following:

  • Address of traffic issue
  • Nature of traffic issue (e.g., speeding, cars that run stop lights or red lights, crosswalk issues, etc.)
  • General time issue occurs
  • Phone number or email address if you’d like a response from an officer

Other options on the Speedwatch site include an online interactive status map and a stream of the department's Speedwatch Twitter feed (#SpeedWatchSLC).

Stay safe, buckle up, and slow down out there!
